Job Summary
Design, specify, and manage the installation of integrated audiovisual (AV) and extra-low-voltage (ELV) systems, including active/passive network infrastructure, access control/security, and CCTV—working with leading industry manufacturers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight of a project from conception through installation and completion.
- Review hour estimates based on needs analysis, scope, and bid requirements.
- Develop engineering and architectural (RCP/Floor Plan) drawings, calculations, and acoustical modeling.
- Design, specify, and integrate ELV systems: Security (Lenel or similar), CCTV (Axis, Milestone, etc.), Passive Network Cabling (Belden, Panduit, CommScope/SYSTIMAX, Leviton, Corning), Active Networking (Cisco, Aruba/HP, Extreme, Netgear).
- Identify technical or logistical impediments to delivering the scope.
- Identify special project requirements: test equipment, specialized tools, rigging, and more.
- Test and commission both AV systems (audio DSP, video processing, control software) and ELV systems (access control, network configurations, CCTV).
- Support the installation team with engineering expertise as needed.
- Provide technical oversight during commissioning onsite and in-house.
- Evaluate products from AV and ELV vendors in collaboration with manufacturers.
- Provide weekly project updates for clients.
- Monitor project budget and assist the Project Manager with cost control.
- Design wall plates, overlays, and cabling panels (AV and network).
- Perform troubleshooting and testing on integrated AV and ELV systems.
- Support programming of AV control systems (AMX/Crestron) and ELV platforms.
- Coordinate with the Project Manager to secure installation personnel.
- Assist Project Manager in handing off to installation team.
- Deliver documented test results for system testing and commissioning.
- Review and forward project designs from internal/external sources to CAD.
- Travel to job sites as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong communication and professional interaction with internal staff and clients.
- Excellent business writing skills.
- Proficiency with test and calibration equipment for both AV and ELV systems.
- Support for user acceptance testing.
- Expertise in programming, modifying, and troubleshooting AV control systems and ELV/security platforms.
- Deep diagnostic ability for complex AV and ELV systems.
- Advanced IT skills for design, configuration, and system operations.
- Knowledge of structured cabling standards (TIA/EIA, BICSI, ANSI).
- Understanding of IP networking for convergence of AV and ELV.
- Familiarity with cabling vendors: Belden, Panduit, CommScope/SYSTIMAX, Leviton, Corning.
- Familiarity with network hardware from Cisco, Aruba/HP, Extreme, Netgear.
- Familiarity with ELV/security systems such as Lenel OnGuard, Axis Communications, Milestone XProtect.
- Vendor certifications from these manufacturers (e.g., Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Aruba ACMA/ACMP, Extreme Networks, Belden/CommScope, Panduit, Lenel Certified Expert, Axis Certified Professional, Milestone Technical Certification) are strongly preferred.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Valid Driver’s License and compliant Motor Vehicle Record per company standards.
Education and/or Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Formal education in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in AV and/or ELV system engineering.
- A four-year degree or relevant military technical experience may substitute for direct experience.
- Certifications are strongly preferred, including:
- AV: CTS-D, CTS-I
- Cabling/Infrastructure: BICSI RCDD, Belden/CommScope/Panduit vendor certifications
- Networking: Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Aruba, Extreme, Netgear
- Security/Access Control: Lenel Certified Expert (LCE), S2 Certified, or similar
- CCTV/Video Management: Axis Certified Professional, Milestone Technical Certification
